I decided to get to work on some flies for the trout stream. I whipped up a half dozen size 16 pheasant tail nymphs. These are an incredible fly on the trout stream. I bet they would be a killer fly…Continue

I have recently started trolling for salmon on Lake Ontario with home-made tube flies. I have had better luck with flasher/flly trolling than with trolling spoons. I use a medium action level wind, line counter reel and trolling rod. To get the fly down to the fish, I use a Dipsy Diver. Following are instructions for making and using flies the way I have been doing it.

My BLT is similar to a brown wooly bugger but without the palmered hackle, with Clouser minnow-style eyes and a short tail. Originally tied for smallmouth bass, it has proven effective for me on just about all fresh water species. It is embarrasingly simple looking (kind of like a brown little turd - hence the name) but extremely effective. Fish it near the bottom with a fast sinking or intermediate fly line.
